Ghanaian and Nigerian comedienne, Jacinta Ocansey has disclosed her unhappiness at the lack of opportunities given to Ghanian comedians.
The comedienne channelled her dissatisfaction at the Tourism Ministry for not providing opportunities for popular US TV comedian and presenter, Steve Harvey to engage other Ghanaian comedians to help gain some knowledge and expertise from the presenter.
It was recalled that Steve Harvey recently visited Ghana as part of the Year of Return initiative which is a celebration to mark 400 years of the slave trade.
Jacinta disclosed her worry when she was being interviewed on Citi FM. Host of the show, Nana Adwoa Sarkodie asked her about how comedians in the country have benefited from “The Year of Return.
In response, Jacinta stated that comedians have not benefited from the initiative at all.
She said;”They have not returned anything to us because a whole Steve Harvey was in Ghana and there was no opportunity to even have a sit down with comedians here in Ghana.
“So as far as I am concerned nothing has been returned to me,”
Jacinta also opined that a lot more could be done by the Tourism Ministry to make the industry more vibrant and appealing.
Jacinta has been on various stand-up comedy platforms in and out Ghana. She is also an outstanding events’ host, an On-Air Personality (OAP) at Starr 103.5fm, and a renowned actress.
In addition, so far, foreign celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Glover, AJ Johnson, Steve Harvey, among others have visited Ghana as part of the Year of Return initiative.
